Welcome to the van der Merwede DNA Study

Informatie in het Nederlands

No matter what you hope to accomplish through genealogical research, traditional methods may never find all the connections between the various van der Merwede (and variant) family groups. Furthermore, links that are believed to have been proven may, in fact, be inaccurate.

The ability to study DNA now provides a way to determine direct male-to-male lineage. Such an effort is the basis of this project.

The ongoing results of the project can be viewed here: Van der Merwede DNA Research Results Page

This study is meant to include participants from all over the world, including those with the following variant surnames:

  • MERWEDE, van der MERWEDE, van der MERWE, van de MERWE and van de MERBEL
  • CLOOTWIJK, van CLOOTWIJK, KLOOTWIJK, van KLOOTWIJK
  • MUYLWIJCK, van MUYLWIJCK, MOLENWIJK
  • RIEDE, van RIEDE, REEDE, van REEDE, REED

With researchers from different countries and any of the variant surnames, we'll build a knowledge base that will yield results for years to come.

If your van der Merwede research has hit a brick wall - and even if it hasn't - DNA analysis could be the breakthrough you've been looking for. By finding connections to other van der Merwede family lines, it just may expand your research several generations.

So how can a DNA study help you? You may choose to participate in order to:

  • Confirm or rule out a suspected match, or

  • If you don't find a match, lay groundwork for future research options by posting your pedigree chart and DNA results so that future participants might match yours.

The coordinator for this study is George van der Merwede. Feel free to contact him if you have any questions or problems.
